This is the third in the Series on Life. Why are we here? What is Life? How we can find True Happiness.

When Jesus walked the earth He gave several sermons. One of the most famous is the Sermon on the Mount. Here Jesus gave us the steps to happiness thru the Beatitudes. Everyone born has had a desire to be happy, to have purpose and peace in our lives. But how? Will we ever find true happiness? If you follow the word of God and what Jesus taught us than the answer is a resounding Yes! In these 8 beatitudes Jesus points the way.
When Jesus spoke this sermon, He used Blessed are .... The closest translation in the English language would be Happy in the deepest sense of the word. He was telling us the answers to our search for happiness.
1.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:3
So what does this mean? Was He talking of wealth? No, Money does not bring the happiness that our souls desire. Do we need to be poor? No, Jesus taught that you can find happiness in spite of poverty.
If we are poor in Spirit we must be aware of our 'Spiritual Poverty'. We are all given a body with eyes, ears, hands, feet and nose. Each of these have been given to us by God to use as He intended. But the Bible teaches us that we are more than just a body. Each of us is a living soul. Our souls are created in the image God. Just as our bodies have characteristics and appetites, so do our souls. Our souls cannot be totally satisfied until it knows God in the proper way. Only God can fulfill the deepest longings and desires of the soul. So the first step to God is the realization of our spiritual poverty.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. "No one comes unto the Father but by me".
Next time we will talk about 'Disease of the Soul'.
